Is your Google profile costing you clients?

When someone searches “barber near me” or “car detailing Laval”, Google shows a map and three businesses before the first website. Your Google profile is often the first impression. Here’s how to make it impossible to skip.

01The right category

This is the setting that matters most, and the one most often picked wrong. Choose the most precise category for your main service: “Car paint protection service” rather than “Car wash”, “Men’s hair salon” rather than “Beauty salon”.

Then add two or three secondary categories for your other services. No more: a profile that says everything shows up for nothing.

In pictures

What a client searching nearby sees: the map first, websites after.

02Photos that make people want to come

People look at photos before they read anything. A profile with three old, blurry photos looks like a business that has closed.

Aim for recent, real photos: your storefront (so people find you), the inside, the team, and above all results, like a before/after or a finished piece. Add a few every month: it shows you’re active.

03Regular reviews, and replies

The number of reviews matters, but so does how recent they are. Ten reviews from 2021 build less trust than five from last month.

Reply to every review, even the good ones, in one or two sentences. For a bad review: thank them, stay calm, offer to sort it out privately. Future clients mostly read your reply.

04Accurate information everywhere

Hours, address, phone, website: everything should match what’s on your site and social pages. Update your holiday and vacation hours, or Google shows “open” while you’re closed, and that client doesn’t come back.

Add a direct link to your quote or booking form, not just your homepage.

To check this week

  • Most precise main category possible
  • 3 recent photos added this month
  • A reply to every review within 48 hours
  • Holiday hours up to date
  • Link to your quote or booking form

The takeaway

A well-kept profile costs nothing and works for you day and night. Start with the category and the photos this week: they’re the two changes that show up fastest.
